Career Pathways Programme

(CPP) is a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a work-based learning initiative that involves senior school school students in in in in in in in the the the the Bermuda Public School System as as they begin to actively charter their careers before graduating The The The programme was launched in in in in in in in in the the the the the 2012-2013 academic school school year The The goals of the the the the the the Career Pathways Programme
are are are are are are are to to prepare students in in in in in in grades 11 & 12 12 for for college and and and and careers careers Students are are are are are are exposed to to careers careers and and and and gain hands-on experiences in in in in the the the workplace This exposure fosters the the the the development of of of interpersonal communication skills relationships professionalism and and and and accountability For a a a a a a a a a a a a twelve (12) week week period students engage in in a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a career work placement experience experience experience once a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a week week between the the the the the the hours of 1:00 pm pm and 5:00 pm pm This experience experience experience experience is is is held either on on on on a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Tuesday Wednesday or or or or or or or or Thursday afternoon During the the the the the the the the the the experience experience experience experience students are are are are are supervised by by a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a trainer/ mentor mentor who who orientates them to to to to to their their their work work placement placement At the the the the the the the the the the the end of the the the the the the the the the the experience experience experience experience they are are are are assessed on on on their their their performance by by their their their mentor mentor The results are are are are sent to to to to to to Career Pathways coordinators who who who oversee the the the the the the the the the the entire work work placement placement experience experience Outcomes of of of of the the the programme include
students achieving one (1) credit for graduation an an industry entry entry level level certification entry entry level level work work experience experience full time/part time time employment and the the the development of of employability skills Students who who demonstrate the the the the the academic proficiency required to to to to to meet the the the the rigor of of college college level courses courses can register in in the the the the dual enrollment programme programme at at at the the the the the the Bermuda College This programme programme allows allows students students to to to to to take college college courses courses and work work toward achieving credits for an an an an an Associate’s Degree It also allows allows students students planning to to to to work work in in in the the the the the technical fields the the the the the ability to to to to earn the the the the the Applied Science Technology Certificate which is is an an an an an entry level employment award Prior to registering for a a a a a a a a a a work placement experience experience students enroll in in the the the City City & & Guilds Guilds Employability Employability Skills Skills course course Those who successfully complete the the the the course course are are are awarded the the the the City City & & Guilds Guilds Employability Employability Skills Skills Certificate There are are are are five areas of exploration within the the the Career Pathways Programme
They include
college preparation courses applied technology business and and and and and and hospitality health and and and and and and human services the the the the arts athletics and and and and and and and communications With these multiple and and and and and and and diverse options options students are are exposed to many opportunities and and and and and and and can learn about and and and and and and and experience career options options that meet their interests and and and and abilities The Career Pathways Programme
