Each year we excitedly prepare our S4 students for their next steps after high school Whether they wish to to go directly to to to to college/university a a a a a a a vocational program or or or or into the the workforce we are are there to to to to give guidance and support I would like to to to to share with you some of the the the activities that are are are unique to to CedarBridge Academy
as we prepare our students for College or or University Some of the the preparation activities that take place each year are the the the College/University & Job Application Rally Rally Day Day Day Senior Day Day Day and the the Scholarship Party Rally Rally Day Day Day is is a a a a a a a a a a a a a day that we set aside for all all all S4 students to to visit Student Services
during their study period to to receive assistance with completing college/university and and and job applications Representatives from Workforce Development and and and the Bermuda College are on on hand to assist students with this process Senior Day is is a a a a a a a a a day day filled with motivation education and preparation On this day day we invite community members to to to our school to to to give motivating presentations facilitate workshops related to to to college and and career preparation and and conduct mock mock interviews interviews The mock mock interviews interviews provide a a a a a a a a a great opportunity for for our students to practice those soft skills needed for for future success This year our our our first ever Scholarship Party was hosted by our our our Head of Students Services
Mrs Lowe and our our our Acting Principal Mr Mr Caesar Approximately 30 students attended and and received assistance with creating accounts and and uploading documents on the the BermudaScholarships com website they also got help with essay writing During our Career Lecture Series individuals from the community come and and share first-hand knowledge about their profession with the the students Finally our School
Counsellors conduct Individual Planning Meetings
with with students and their their parents preparing them with with information that can enhance their their social emotional academic and college & career success!

senior class takes a a a a a a a ten day college college tour to to to visit three colleges located in in Washington DC Tennessee and and Alabama This reality check enables the the students to to experience firsthand what a a a a a a a a a college college setting feels like While the the trip is sprinkled with fun activities students have a a a a a a a a a tedious college college day’s class assignment that must be completed in order to to receive a a a a a a a a a a a a grade as as as this tour is is a a a a a a required class The college day’s assignment is divided into five parts In Section A students are are asked to to to identify at at least 5 colleges they are are interested in in in attending and to to to list their top considerations such as location size or or academic offerings This information is is is is then used to to create a a a a a a a a a a a visual comparison chart of of their interested schools Section B covers the the actual college tour Interview a a a a a a student and and someone from a a a a a a a a a a department of the the the program they are interested in in in They must collect information and and submit an an application for for for admission Students also use the the the information to identify the the the colleges that may meet their requirements In Section C C Complete a a a budget sheet for their number one college choice List all known expenses family contributions and potential scholarships or loans Section D Conversation with their parents Include a a a a a a a a realistic discussion about the the the college college day tour what what major they would like to to pursue college college cost and what what funds are are available Submit a a a a a a a a a a a a written report of the the the conversation that is is is signed by their parents parents This we have found is is is an effective way to involve parents parents in in the the process Finally in in in Section E Share Share thoughts on on on lessons learned about preparing for college Share Share whether they feel prepared academically emotionally and financially
to go away They also share their philosophy on on on the the importance of attaining a a a a a a a a a a a a a higher education or or skilled trade This assignment ensures that students who had not given any thought to attending college now have a a a a a a a a a a a plan in in in in place for continuing education COLLEGE
